Important Information for Iowa Total Care Families
Keeping Your Care with Waggoner Pediatrics
Iowa Total Care made the decision to end its contract with Waggoner Pediatrics, effective October 19, 2025. Our last day seeing Iowa Total Care patients was Friday, October 18, 2025.
This change was not related to the quality of care or any disciplinary matter. It was a business decision made solely by Iowa Total Care, and we did not choose to leave their network.
We understand that this change has caused confusion and frustration for some families. Our goal is to make sure every family who wishes to stay with Waggoner Pediatrics knows how to do so.
You Have the Right to Switch MCOs
According to the Iowa Total Care Member Handbook, members may change to another Managed Care Organization (MCO) if:
“Your provider has been terminated or no longer participates with your MCO.”
Because Waggoner Pediatrics’ contract with Iowa Total Care ended, this rule applies to your family.
That means you can switch to another MCO that includes our clinic — even outside of open enrollment — to continue your child’s care with us.
How to Stay with Waggoner Pediatrics
Step 1: Call Iowa Medicaid Member Services
They can process your MCO change request and ensure your child’s care continues at Waggoner Pediatrics.

Tell them you would like to switch MCOs because your provider, Waggoner Pediatrics, is no longer participating with Iowa Total Care.

Helpful Tips for Families
Have your Medicaid ID number ready when you call.
Clearly state that you are switching plans because Waggoner Pediatrics is no longer in network with Iowa Total Care.
Ask when your new coverage will begin to make sure there is no gap in your child’s care.
